Brett holds a PhD in English from Victoria University of Wellington. He has diverse skills, also having a master's degree in architecture with an emphasis on theory and history. In addition to that, he is a novelist and literary academic. His teaching experience has covered design, art, architecture and English, with a substantial portion devoted to teaching academic writing and communication. He has training and experience in dealing with students with dyslexia and English as a second language and volunteers as a tutor for refugees. He is fascinated by what other people have to teach him about their own expertise, imagination, and life stories. He also likes cats.
